If you create a platform that keeps making money, despite low effort development, then there is likely little interest to improve it, unless there is an issue that would cause numbers to drop. There is always a risk in “improving” something that you destroy the very essence that makes it work.
As for the talent, many may start off tame and seeing it as easy money, but go further when they see certain actions creating more revenue. Why do a regular job when you see $ 10000+ USD dropping into your account every month or that you aiming for that number?
The “fans” find their favourite idol and are willing to pay to spend time with them, because of fantasy and that they can’t find that content elsewhere. In reality they should be focusing on real people, but throwing money at a fantasy is relatively easy.

Perhaps I'm just overly nostalgic but it seemed like there were 'characters' on that site with a sense of humor, even some that I bothered meeting in real life (at a mid 00s Olympia event). Someone would post a photo of a smoking hot muscle babe and someone would comment about her VCR blinking 12:00 in the background (or similar nonsense). Or someone would post an obvious, horrible Photoshop and then we'd have a laugh.
This place is good, but I just think times have changed. Younger people have been raised in a humorless world. The closest thing to funny here is the guy who writes 17 (per post) paragraphs playing physiatrist to people he's never met... But that's not intentional humor.
BTW, I have seen Bulklover posting recently on Saradas, but I probably only check into that spammy nightmare about every 6 months. I wish he'd take up an account here.

Then my go to site became armfan's, first hosted on geocities before getting its own domain. Shut down in the 2000s after someone doxxed the owner.
After that it became herbiceps.com - no, I'll never forgive them for shutting down the forum there and turnig into basically a soft core porn and fetish / webcam site
So I guess gwm is my 4th go to site.
Of course I visited other sites occasionally, but they lacked the content, the community or quality to be considered as my go to.
