Is there some reason Japanese FBBs seem so much smaller than the rest of the world? I assume it’s some prohibition against gear, or against women having muscle mass at all, but it seems odd. I hasten to add that I mean no disrespect here.
Might be a mix of both and a result of a trend towards older bodybuilder in Japan (with less bodyfat). There is an incident hinting towards (at least) less use of doping:

Quite a size difference. The runners-up are top-level bodybuilders in Japan (Ogishima Junko won the Nihon Physique 2023 and Sakamori Kaori got 5th place of Nihon Phyisque 2023). And Nakajima Chiharu's wins weren't even close (at least 5 of 7 judges put her on 1st place in each round).
So bodybuilders of her size could easily win tournaments of the JBBF. They don't have a disadvantage. (And why should - for example - a third-place finisher refrain from reaching her natural maximum in order to improve her result?)
The closest I ever came was someone that was a co-worker who became a good friend of mind told me in passing that he goes to the gym to get trained by his buddies wife. He's a pretty big dude so I said she must pretty fit to be able to spot him. Without any prompting he pulled out his phone and showed me a photo of him and his wife next to his buddy and his wife. And that wife just so happened to be Sherry Priami. Hell of a surprise.

Good deal! Anorexic and thin/skinny are not interchangeable. Anorexia is a dangerous
condition which usually requires professional help to overcome and can lead to death.
Anyone remember Karen Carpenter? A lot of fitness women that we see may be very thin
because of dieting to prepare for competition, but it's voluntary. Once the comp is over,
they can't wait to eat!
Interesting. And from what I've seen you can substitute a volume of muscle for fat, be just as lean as an anorexic person, yet be very healthy because even in the event you stopped eating, you could easily burn muscle in place of fat.

Melinda’s is around 30. ~ 162cm 80kg
Mine is 27 in comparison. Would need to gain 12 kg of muscle to match hers. That’s crazy
