Are we in the new golden age?

Jan 15, 2022 - permalink

Looked around, but couldn't find a similar thread started recently...

Has anybody else been surprised by the number of new, actually jacked women that have been popping up here and elsewhere on the internet--seemingly everyday? Sure, the 90s had some truly massive women, but I think that being a muscular woman has never been more popular and we're in the new golden era of female muscle.

I'm sure it's probably because it's gaining more social acceptance, instagram and other social media enabled women to publish pictures of themselves, MMA and crossfit seem to have really won over a lot of women. Perhaps they are just more visible nowadays, but I think (and really hope) it will be not uncommon to see a really buff woman in every gym--and that's a beautiful thing.

Sadly, I just got out of a relationship with a figure competitor, but I know first hand they are out there!

Anybody else share my optimism? I mean, the entire rest of the world is going to shit, but at least there are a lot more buff chicks?

Sure, there are a lot more today than before but there are also a lot more people in the world today than before. And social media makes everyone you want to see or find stand out more. Otherwise as a percentage of the total population, I don't necessarily think there are that many more women into fitness and/or bodybuilding than before. It might seem like there are when looking on the internet, but I can tell you my real life encounters are about the same.

Most People like to be all nostalgic but things have been getting better and better for a super long time there are a lot more muscular women now because it's more socialy acceptable and many countries have more wealth so women from certain countries can now do what they want while even 20 years ago there was a lot more poverty on a global level

and also things like steroīds and supliments have improved and things Will only get better (sorry for bad grammar my phone is acting weird)

Just waiting for the next Cindy Phillips, Dani Reardon to pop up.

Well, while maybe the new Cindy Phillips or Dani Reardon will still be a rarity I guess, pretty sure the average level of fitness on women has been rising a lot in these last years.

Women started playing sports that used to be a male only place, there's more social acceptance about strong women, on movies as well they are having always more a badass role, on socials flexing muscles and working out is not a tabu anymore. Tiktok, the last social who became the most popular is boosting this process, it's full of young girls proud of being very strong and even sometimes even more proud to be considered "freak" for having muscles.

Indeed, having muscles for a woman is not yet the most common thing, but way way better and more popular than in the past years. And I'm guessing the trend in rising exponentially.

Btw, I'm not talking about big body builders, I think they will always be a niece, but for sure being stronger, healthier, and having visible muscles, is a trend thing and I don't see any reason why this process should change.

Alot of women aren't afraid of weights anymore. Im positive social media has helped this quite a bit

Maybe. In terms of abundance, you could say so. In terms of achievements and accomplishments, I don't know. We don't have any jacked women that have tipped the scales, yet. I'm thinking of Arnie's impact with Pumping Iron. Not only did it help make him famous, but it made bodybuilding popular throughout the 80's. If we get a muscular woman who's able to move the needle within the decade, I'd say this is a golden age for sure.

I personally feel like the women of the 90’s would crush the girls these days if they had the resources we currently have. Women were built different back then. Most of them were skinny women who built crazy muscle. Women these days I feel are already more dense when they start. In a sense, yes, we are seeing a huge surge in bigger beefy women who lift, but are they as impressive as the ones that came before them? Not in my humble opinion.

Name some names.

It’s definitely more socially accepted and even desirable these days thanks to social media. The movement continues.

You think maybe that has to do with the emphasis on conditioning? Ladies weren’t as conditioned back then, but that may have worked in their favor.

Yeah, I think you are right! But the numbers are still small. Is it because women don´t understand how attractive most guys (subconscious or not) think it is with some muscle on?

Lots more girls with muscle but lots less hot girls with huge muscles

Depends on how you're looking at it. As far as the ability to find and meet muscular women irl, yes. There are far more women into lifting weights now than ever before.

But, if we're judging by the sport of female bodybuilding itself, then no. FBB went from being on the largest sports network in the US, ESPN, to receiving no meaningful visibility at all. Judges continue to push women to be smaller limiting their potential. Maybe because of that the physiques we saw back in the day were more impressive than what we see now, on average. If it wasn't for Wings of Strength the sport as we know it may not even exist. Still, the sport has certainly regressed.

Also, as a fan, or muscle fetish fan, whatever you want to call it, things have also gotten worse. Sure there's more women producing content, but the quality and price has gone downhill ever since women have taken ownership of their material. I think a lot of them just don't know what their fans want, or try to slap ridiculous prices on their material. Things were far better when someone else was in change of their personal sites, or you could go to HB, FF, etc for a bunch of material at a very fair price.

Define jacked? Cause i can tell you the bigger chicks and more ripped/big ones here..that look certaiy isn't becoming more mainstream A fitness model type look though..thats probably more prevalent

I wouldn't say so. There are many amazing women today. But I wouldn't call it a golden era. I guess it depends on your perspective.

The rampant amount of implants and body ink has really hurt this era.

Even though the figure and physique divisions are flourishing, the FBB division is still suffering from a lack of competitors.

The women who have a huge impact after they debut on the scene and then disappear in just a few short years seems to be so common now that it's expected.

The SESSION scene was WAY better back in the day with many top shelf Fbbs. Not so much anymore unless you're filthy rich. These days a goddamn webcam session could cost more than an actual face-to-face meet up.

Social media is a blessing and a curse. It was nice seeing so many new muscle ladies being able to provide their own content so we, the fans, can support them directly. Fortunately it's caused an abundant flood of overpriced unimaginative half-assed content.

So while I am enjoying consistently seeing new ladies pop up outta nowhere to blow our muscle loving minds if I could snap my fingers and bring back the glory 90s or even 2000s I'd do it without a second thought.

I guess my point is the area-under-the-curve for muscular women has increased, but I do admit the top 5% has decreased.

I do agree that the division of female bodybuilding has declined considerably. Although, a lot of physique competitors and figure competitors are getting pretty big.

Interesting observation that the paid content has decreased in quality and increased in price. You could probably make the same argument for other kinds of porn--the fall of Playboy and rise of pornhub/random attractive girls with an onlyfans account...

As much as I love the absolute pinnacle that is women's bodybuilding, there's so few of them that its incredibly unlikely you'd have a shot with any one of them. More important (to me) than the women on stage are the women you can meet and date in real life. Figure competitor sized women and crossfit girls are not that uncommon on dating apps, certainly you have to wade through a lot of other girls, but they are out there. That's why I think this is such an interesting time to have this kink.

Who knows though, given the increasing numbers of women who lift weights, hopefully more will want to look like Anastasia Leonova and others.

parkranger - You are right about crossfit girls on dating apps, but do you think most of them are using steroids?

Jan 17, 2022 - permalink

Exceedingly few will want to look like anastasia leonova..just fyi. Lol The most common most will want is fitness with emphasis on quads glutes etc.

Jan 17, 2022 - permalink

Quads, glutes, is the trend of the moment. At some point they became a thing, maybe in the gym girls works it will be replaced by emphasis on other body parts or other body shapes, but at least the trend is having always more girls hitting the gym.

The massive IFBB size will always be a niece, even because that kind of body type require a crazy unsustainable life style. It's something that can be temporary. While a healthy lifestyle is something achievable through an active life, can it be hitting the gym or doing any other sport.

The main positive thing in my opinion is that always more girls and women are taking care about themselves and showing a strong body is not a tabu anymore, and seeing some muscles on them is ok.
