Bodybuilding = Steroids

Simply put, no steroids no bodybuilding. What everyone means by the word bodybuilding is only possible through pharmacology. This applies even to bikini competitors.

No steroids = no strength sports of any kind.

Not just bodybuilding, but at the top levels of powerlifting, strongman, crossfit (even in the local level!) steroid use is prevalent. I have seen a lot of it as a Crossfitter

Bodybuilding is more pageantry than sport.

You had plenty of sports with a strength component prior to the creation of chemical enhancements. As noted, a problem with PEDs in sports is that they become essential to compete, so people who would otherwise prefer to avoid their life-shortening side-effects are compelled to take them. Sports basically have a positional good dynamic. If anything, the elimination of PEDs opens up more competition (all other things being equal).

I find that rather insulting tbh. I train just as hard for bodybuilding than I have for any other "sport". Also many sports have risks. I stopped playing "real sports" like football in college because I didn't want brain damage.

One issue with your utopia is if everyone was huge and muscular, then no one would be.

99% of the women on this site are on "something" and most are on a LOT of "something".

If you like the way these girls look, then of course they should keep using steroids because their look is unattainable without them.

I disagree that 99% of the women on this site are on steroids. Maybe 75% have taken something, but think that's the absolute max.

I know some guys think it's absolutely impossible for a woman to be really muscular without steroids, but it isn't. Some of you guys think that natty doesn't exist unless a girl looks like a waif. Have you really never seen a girl who was naturally muscular without even working out? I don't mean lean, I mean a girl with big muscles who doesn't work out much less take steroids. I have. There are athletic women who are muscular enough that they could just diet down and look like a lot of the women on this site without steroids. The variations in body types is pretty wild. Take Tina Lockwood or Karla Nelsen for an example. I'm certain Tina did steroids later on, but not in the beginning and steroids did not give her that insane muscle mass, that was a gift from God. Her thighs were like tree trunks when she showed up at Builtmore Studios at the tender age of 19 and she 100% wasn't on steroids.

Karla is another girl who had absolutely crazy muscle mass at an young age long before she thought about competing much less taking steroid. I actually did a session with her long after she was popular and I didn't drug test her so I can't tell you she never did steroids ever, but I will tell you that I got very up close and personal with her and her voice was as feminine as can be, she sounded like a 16 year old kid practically. She had no remotely masculine facial features either, nor any suspicious bulges in her bikini. None of the stuff you see. Not even subtly. Believe me she had my rapt attention, I would have notices. She was very girly, for real. She just had massive muscles. Again, I'm not going to say she never did 'em, but I will say if she did, then it must have been a smaller amount or she found some magic steroids that don't convey any masculine features.

Genetics has more to do with it than almost anything. I've seen girls that absolutely use steroids who are smaller than girls who absolutely don't. I'm not kidding myself here, I know a ton of girls do them to varying degrees. I saw a survey that say even 3% of high school girls admit to having used steroids, so they're out there. But no, not every woman who is more than a little muscular is on steroids. Just no.

I thought they had to take a polygraph test, which would mean they couldn't take steroids. And how is it obvious someone is using?

It's generally not.

To me, obvious signs of steroid use are when a woman's voice gets noticeably deeper over time, back acne, dramatic changes to the skin, changes to jawline, hair growing where it shouldn't. Compare pictures from before and after.

To some other guys, any woman more muscular than they are or any woman who looks any more muscular than a waifish fitness model must be on steroids. That's just ridiculous. A lot of women use them, yes but 99% is bullshit. I don't buy it. I don't buy that every woman that looks any more muscular than a super lean fitness competitor is on steroids, sorry. Muscle by itself isn't enough evidence, unless you're talking about a woman gaining 20 lbs of muscle in a couple of months or something absurd like that.

My only response to this is, try bodybuilding. Without PED it's almost impossible to add large amounts of lean mass in any reasonable amount of time for a MAN, let alone a woman.

And if you're suggesting that there was even a 0.000000001% chance that KARLA NELSON was natural then 🤦‍♂️ I mean c'mon.

Hedgeborn’s comment reminds me, yet again, how little a lot of people know about steroids in bodybuilding/fitness. I’ve said this before, but AGAIN, even bikini competitors are usually on a compound or more.

I’m a natural lifter and have quite a bit of muscle, but that’s after YEARS of work and of continuing diminishing returns. Meanwhile, there are dudes who have been lifting for far less time than I have, use steroids and are absolutely massive compared to me.

Even the guys can't build much muscle mass.

/thread. So many people on this site think a woman has to have a 5 o’clock shadow for there to be any suspicion they’re on the sauce. Anyone who actually lifts knows how foolish that is. Like you said, even most bikini competitors are on something, and it’s safe to say every bodybuilder on this site is juiced up. No, it’s not genetics. No, drug testing doesn’t prove anything. And no, just because they said they were natty doesn’t suddenly make it true. There are definitely natty women on this site, but they’re not that big or shredded, and they’re in the minority.

So yes, bodybuilding should allow steroids because it wouldn’t exist without it.

Have you ever seen a muscular 12-year old boy? Just before the puberty.

Sep 30, 2021 - permalink

In topics like this you understand that ignorance is much bigger than you ever thought possible.

The last couple of years many competitors spoke openly about roids, so just do a search and educate yourself instead of writing totally ignorant posts about women and muscles.

Youtube -> search -> women steroids. Words straight from the horses mouth.

@COD8MW Have you ever seen a muscular 12-year old boy? Just before the puberty.

yes i have..im 59 years old and grew up on the south side in a housing project of a mid sized city. i seen and played football with muscular kids who were not yet 12.. i went swimming and most all my friends and other boys who were at the pool had very little fat and were muscular...this was in the early 1970's..there was coca cola and pepsi and other things around.but some of the kids were very poor and did not have money to spend..some kids had no fat whatsoever and at least a few were large muscled kids with little fat if any..and there were fat kids..but not many...i imagine what it was like in the 1800's kids were prolly even more in shape as there wasn't processed sugar in everything and no soft drinks...sugar and water combined .such as processed milk,o.j. cola..etc destroy the anabolic drive and muscle cannot be gained...which is why you see protein powders such as whey protein contain only a few grams of sugar per serving [wheras a coke may have 40g sugar for 12 ounce..a good whey protein powder will have 3g at most]......sure steroids will build one big..but it is possible to attain a decent size without steroids..its called discipline..still i dont imagine one could be super huge without steroids..but idk...it also depends on whether one is a mesomorph or an ectomorph as to what size can be attained and or the amount of effort one needs to put into it...mesomorph's being the idea body builders for growth and size. endomorph's having the toughest route.

discipline not only in weight training but dieting as well...no sugar water .... foods that boost testosterone . such as broccoli, tuna, etc..but yeah if you want insane growth steroids will put one at another level. but muscle mass is possible without them.

That's pretty much what people mean when they say "he/she has good genetics" in bodybuilding. They already have that all but essential foundation for building lots of muscle (mesomorphs).

To the original question:

No, bodybuilders do not need steroids. But if they are to reach the pro level, let alone have any success competing at that level, then they do need steroids. That's just the way it is.

But then it also depends on your definition of "bodybuilder." For me, when someone says "female bodybuilder," that means someone who literally competes in the Women's Bodybuilding division. If your definition of the word is much broader than that, then we'd be here all day while I write about women who dose vs. women who don't dose and the general fallacies people make in assuming that just because a woman is a certain size that she must be dosing, or that smaller women don't dose at all. There is in fact an extremely large grey area that it seems most people don't consider at all.

So all I'm saying is that smaller women who you'd think aren't dosing, are... and some larger women (up to a point) who you'd swear are taking steroids, aren't. It just depends on the person... some take steroids when they don't even really need it, and some don't take it just because their bodies naturally respond better to training than others (genetics).

I remember muscular 11 year-old boys in gym class, but that's because they hit puberty early. They had hair under their arms and could probably father children.

Were there pre-adolescents who flexed noticeable biceps? I can't recall any in my mind's eye, but I remember other kids saying so-and-so was "buff," which was probably a combination of low body-fat and high insertions. Similarly, there are athletic adult females who have never consumed male hormones, but flex noticeable bicep peaks. It's not necessarily because they train their arms; their athleticism keeps their body fat down. They're not super-strong or anything. There's a huge difference between 11-inch arms with noticeable peaks and 15-inch arms with noticeable peaks.

cgsweat i agree with what you said..i have not read many of the posts..but i made a mistake of commenting on this and i get notifications of course...i don't think i read page 1 of this at all..lol... i had to comment on the 12 year olds though cause i would look at the other kids at the swimming pool and wonder how they were almost all muscle and some were big and i was just average ...i didn't know cola drinking was that bad for one when i was a little kid..but i was big and husky before i moved back with my mom at 8...3 years of cola changed me.....i am white and there were muscular poor white kids, some were big before 12...but there was this one black kid ..who my probation officer..lol...thought must of been 16 as we drove past the boys club....but who was only 12..he could not believe it when i told him.....freak of nature of course.

i prefer both the anastasia leonova present and past...her face looked much better 3 years ago..but her body wasn't as huge...idk if she was roiding 3 years ago[probably just starting then ] and if i am to be honest i prefer the 3 years ago anastasia...as a permanent look..if she were my wife...but one cannot deny the attractiveness of her large muscularity. myself i am for genetic manipulation for bodybuilders...impossibly huge with no skull growth, voice deepening etc

Yeah, even some women can bulk up easily with weight training - however, it depends on the woman. Anabolic steroid effects on woman's voice, acne, stubbles growth, also masculinized offacial features. Lenka F have many years experience of weight training for a long time, Nobody knows what she takes.

There's intense training for chess competitions, but it's not a sport. Bodybuilders are at their weakest when they oil up and take the stage in teeny-tiny attire. Not playing football sounds smart.

It seems that many or all women in the IFBB are taking anabolics to help gain muscle and loose fat. However the majority of buff women in society don’t take steroids, just work out, eat right and maybe creatine. That’s because they are probably professionally doing other things. Back to the IFBB…. Now I’m pretty naive about the IFBB and it’s standards and politics. If all of these women are taking steroids, where are they getting them? Last I checked, steroids were illegal. Some pharma companies make steroids like oxandrolone but they are controlled substances in the US and not easily obtainable by prescription. MDs who do prescribe may be periodically audited by the state to verify that controlled drugs are appropriately prescribed. Black market steroids are very risky, potentially impure, mislabeled or even fake. So how do the IFBB women make a career out of regular competition while taking steroids? BTW I admit that many of these women look great. But a lot of non IFBB women also look great and look better for longer and are healthier IMO.
