Why was this image merged?

I think the verification speed is not soon enough

You mean the queue?

You are welcome to never use it and just stick to direct uploads.

By the way, pictures from the queue are not guaranteed to ever be approved, so if they are in there for too long, you need to delete them yourself to free up more queue space.

On the other hand, if you mean the moderators are not fast enough finding dupes, then please remember they are volunteers doing this in their free time.

While there are automated processes for trying to find duplicates, they have their own limitations. This is why we depend on people to report dupes when they find them.

My pic appeared on the site earlier (I suppose, because I did check if it's was already there), and the quality is slightly better, so why was it merged? https://www.girlswithmuscle.com/2101788/

I don't think the one you uploaded was higher quality. It was higher resolution, but the quality was the same, and it was just blown up to a larger size.

I didn't blow it up, it is one of the formats that Instagram itself provides. But even if the quality is the same, I guess I was still the first uploader?

Instagram image quality can be all over the place, which makes it tricky to decide which image to keep in certain cases. I was the one who chose to keep the other image because this case was one of those where, if anything, the larger size was a bit of a downgrade. When you look at it at full size, the larger size has only served to magnify the compression artifacts all over the image (such as in and around her hair, etc.). It all stems from the fact that the original uploader sent a low quality image to Instagram.

Please don't interpret this as being a sign that the smaller image is generally better, or any vendetta against your uploading. Most of the time the bigger one would be preserved in these merge cases, where it's clear that the larger image is an original and not something that's been resized by Girlswithmuscle uploaders. If the image was even equal in quality as I saw it, I would have saved yours, as the older uploaded image.

When you look at it at full size, the larger size has only served to magnify the compression artifacts all over the image (such as in and around her hair, etc.). It all stems from the fact that the original uploader sent a low quality image to Instagram.

When I zoom in to about 300% (which I think is a bit ridiculous, because I never do that when viewing pics) in my opinion in the bigger pic her lips are slightly redder, and the white of her eyes is a bit more white (which, again, I think is ridiculous, because I don't come here to look at something detailed as the white of her eyes). So as far as I'm concerned: if you can't see any significant differences when you view a pic full size, or the differences are so slight that two viewers have different opinions, I think the older upload should be kept.

If it means that for every upload I have to check all different sizes to decide which one is the original (and even then, someone else can have a different opinion), that would take away all the fun.

Here's what I see (my upload on the left, current pic on the right).

I never zoom. I compare 100% to 100%, every time. The only thing the larger image made clear was that this was uploaded to Instagram as a relatively low DPI image, and it suffered for it at 1440x1798.

If it means that for every upload I have to check all different sizes to decide which one is the original (and even then, someone else can have a different opinion), that would take away all the fun.

The nice thing about this being an actively moderated upload site is that you don't have to do all that work just to decide which exact version of the image is best. As long as you make a good faith attempt to upload a good version, as you did, it's us who decide which one is best. And we collectively do it 50-100 times a day, every day.

It is and has always been the nature of the place that someone will be disappointed by these decisions from time to time.

Not to keep harping on this. But I was actually curious to see if there was a better quality version of your picture anywhere on Instagram. It took a little bit to find, but I found one, more than a month back behind many other pictures on the photog's page. Interestingly, it looks like one of the two images was manipulated a bit, and I'm not sure which one is the manipulated one.

But, the one I found was clearly higher quality than any of them despite being a 1350, and I even made sure you were listed as uploader of it, for the heck it of it.

Good morning all,

I wonder if someone in the know can help answer a question I have about 3 images of Mia Sava (taken from her public Facebook page) that I've been trying to upload that are higher resolution and better quality (not simply zoomed in versions) to those that are already here. They are:

I've tried twice now and on the second attempt I even put in the report details box that "Please note that my image is 1440 x 1800 and tempp's image is 1080 x 1350" and to further ensure the message got through I added a comment to that affect, but still the 1080 x 1350 images persist. Should I not be trying to provide the best images possible for this site?

Here are the images I tried to get added:

The quality improvement in your submissions is considered to fall between negligible and nonexistent. Higher resolution does not automatically mean higher quality. A very high quality image will reveal finer details such as individual hair strands, skin pores, and the fabric of her clothing, just to name some examples.

I uploaded a pic of Joanne Watson yesterday. I was messaged by awoody48123 asking me who it was.

I messaged back and then he uploaded the same pic which has now been merged with me.

It seems some people like to have the kudos for the high scoring pics at all costs.

Your upload appears to be a screenshot, rather than a direct download. This leads to unwanted cropping of the original image.

@4brian if you have any doubts, then yours has a back button as part of the image.

This weekend, there were three new uploads of this image:

. I uploaded the original two years ago. Two of the new uploads were merged into mine, and then mine was merged into the third new upload.

But even though the dimensions of the new upload are slightly higher, I don't see a difference between my original and that upload, except that the colors are a bit lighter in my upload.

morphndupes did that one, so I recommend you message him about it. I don't know if he checks this thread.

Your's was actually a screenshot. It had the iPhone bar at the bar bottom. This was potentially a reason to remove. I'll let the other mods decide, since I am in a bit of position of conflict of interest.

I see. Your pic was cropped to remove that bar. But is that difference big enough to justify merging the older upload into the newer one?

As I said: there were two earlier duplicates. I can imagine the other two uploads, which were merged into mine just before mine was merged into yours, were just the same, without the iPhone bar. Except they were rotated, but the image was the same, I guess - I didn't keep a copy of those pics so I can't check. So if it is decided that your pic is better than mine, I suggest you also check out the previous uploads, because than the second uploader (kolo11) should probably deserve it.

I see the picture I had found on the web does indeed look like a cropped version without the bar (I didn’t crop it myself). While I have no issues assigning you the upload credentials, I am conflicted about the image due to it being a screenshot. Hence, why I am going for a second opinion.

Dec 05, 2023 - permalink

That was pretty much the sum total of the reason I did that merge - the new one didn't have that bar at the bottom. Is it marginal? Sure, I suppose it is. If any other mods disagree, they can change things as they see fit, as my commitment to it either way is also marginal. ;)

I did, in fact, look at those other two merges around the time that I originally merged them. They were both rotated images, and looked both silly and excessively cropped.

I don't upload screenshots and I don't have an iPhone, I found the pic on Erika's Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/p/CPDhXTyDSu6/. The pic you found on the web is probably the same screenshot, but cropped a bit to get rid of the bar.

I see the pic now belongs to [deleted]. I'm in great favor to, in case of marginal differences, give credentials to the original uploader 😉
