Thinking Out Loud

This is just a place to post thoughts. You guys can respond if you like.

One thing I always found amusing about bodybuilding competitions is they are probably the only socially acceptable time/place in the world for darkening your skin by several shades. If people were to walk around in public like this regularly, they'd eventually offend someone.

I know of the purpose and intention of spray tanning at competitions, and obviously it isn't racist by nature. But little things like that, about what is and isn't acceptable in society, I just find humorous.

If anyone has thoughts of their own (bodybuilding or muscle related) or you would just like to respond, please share!

Bodybuilding is the only place you can ask a woman what they weigh and not get slapped.

I've heard people criticize bodybuilding as nothing more than just beauty pageants, but honestly, that's the fun of it, especially in women's bodybuilding. The sparkly bikinis, the over the top posing routines... I don't get what's so bad about that.

Female bodybuilders are rare ones who receive comments like "Wow, you're big/huge" with appreciation.

There has been the usual Twitter-like rabble rousers complaining about the tans. I’m mostly seeing it on TikTok where there’s a pretty large SJW crowd empowered to comment on stuff and bash people for any sort of reason. I don’t think anyone needs to really defend themselves here. I’m hoping it passes soon

Bodybuilding is the only place you can ask a woman what they weigh and not get slapped.

However, depending on her mood and how many other times that same day she's already been asked, asking "How much do you bench?" might get you slapped.

In an ironic way she could be answering your question by showing you how strong she is by the force of her slap, as she angrily replies, "I don't know... how much do you think?!"

Personally I've never heard of anyone getting slapped for this, but it would definitely be entertaining to witness.

I find it curious how tanning was not hit by cancel culture yet. Also, how does exactly tanning enhance muscular appearance?

I think it has to do with stage lighting. The light can wash out muscle detail otherwise.

That makes sense

Female bodybuilding is the best thing in the world and there are several women I know who I wish would turn into one.

The dark tan and Oil brings out tne definition on stage in the spotlights and at view from difference better . The Judges sit in the front yes but there are some meters diference to stage so without the dark stage collor and finish the judges cant see the defition and muscle separation in the spotlights . Same for the stage makeup . On close view all is too much but on stage to audience view perfect . The sparkly bikinis ( named so before ) makes the look perfect . The problems with the Bikinis are the different rules, and the preasure to shine out more than the other makes it more and more expensive 🆘. Even at non pro contest an Bikini that can keep up is very expensive. For example my first was about 170 € my current close to 700 €, High Heels not included. Because of the different rules it is possible that you cant wear same Bikini at other contest or need panties to change what means extra costs

For show up much closer to audience ( or Fans ) at a Fitness / BB Expo for example normaly dont wear stage tan , a slightly dark finish or a nice tan from sunbed for example . Just decent makeup . For do a posing show or specials werar the competition Bikini but most time the outfit from the exhibitor or sponsor where the ladies work .

Same on other aperiances ( not Expo ) like Gym opening , sports events and so on where audience is close .

Why not have an evening gown portion of the event? Then at the end they could "hulk out" and tear their gowns off (of course they'd have their posing suits underneath) and just go right into a flex off. I don't know about everyone else but I'd be very entertained!

That's a big problem in bodybuilding competition. Travel costs, training costs, and you're not guaranteed to make any of that money back. Very few ever do. And as you pointed out it's even worse for women because of the extra expenses they need to make for their heels, makeup, and posing bikinis. And yet they still win less money than their male counterparts. I know it's not all about the money but that part of it has to be quite demoralizing. Those who stick with it have to have an immense passion for the sport.

Yes you are right at most BB and Fitness competition there is nothing to earn , some pro levels exepted . Normaly just costs . So it is great when have a partner that supports in all . Only a few non pro competitors has a sponsor and if have most the sponsor makes the decision about where and whitch class compete . So for many Women there is just the passion for the sport , the love to compete on stage and the amazing feeling when win some trophys .

A way to earn a lil bit is work for exhibitors at expos or get hired for shows like gym opnenings , sports events and so on . But not all included lol there are many things you need to have without gain anything like the competition suits , shoes , makeup , tan and training before , travel cost / hotel depends on event . When get a good host job at FIBO in Germany travel and hotel is included or not expensive . A good way to earn a lil bit extra on jobs like this is join some shows , cometitions or challenges representing the exhibitor i work for . But like wrote before normaly stag outfit and prepartion for all is my problem . Normaly the only outfit you get is the company look for represent the exhibitor at booth and expo . At booth there is the chance to sell some pics additional to all the comercial give aways .

This is why the session scene used to be so huge. They used to make tons of money at expos or around shows. For those that cam, before OF they would spend significant times on cam during or right before prep if they weren’t already regulars. At least for the moment OF and similar have allowed big bank for some women, even better if it’s additional income to a regular job al everything goes toward costs.

In my opinion, top-bottom symmetry is overrated. Clearly the bottom-heavy "Brazilian" look is quite popular. (I know it’s not only Brazilians, but it has earned that connotation). Likewise, I’m far more fascinated to see how far someone like Michaela Aycock can take her upper-body, than to see her calves improve incrementally. I agree with Laurie Fierstein that bodybuilding should be about realizing an otherwise-hidden potential form unique to each individual, rather than trying to meet some universal standard that nevertheless wavers with the tastes of the judges.

I am tired of how “motivation” gets shoehorned into everything related to fitness, especially on Instagram.

Like, as evidenced on me being on the site, I enjoy looking at pictures of buff women. However, it seems like every physique picture I see on Instagram or Facebook has some long motivation diatribe attached to it, or some cliche inspiration quote. Like come on, if you want to show your physique, that’s cool, but it feels lame and almost patronizing to attach some motivational quote to a clearly staged physique shot.

Worst of all is when I see said physique paired with a post that talks about body positivity and loving the way you look because you are perfect the way you are. Yes, I am a huge proponent of body positivity (when I was fat, loving my body was what got me into the gym and in shape), but to say that while displaying a photo of your shredded muscles and abs comes across as unauthentic.

Similar but I hate how “this is my motivation/accountability for myself” look you don’t need any justification to post a hot pic of yourself. No one is fooled

Aug 24, 2021 - edited Aug 24, 2021 - permalink

How literally skin deep are those body positivity posts when (many of the ones that I've seen) are made by folks who have either had plastic surgery and/or unhealthily abuse PEDs all for self image?

(Ditto for motivation coming from drug users).

Not much different from the same body positivity/self-love stuff coming from the contentedly, and proudly, morbidly obese.

And on another item from above. Can't understand the disproportionately gargantuan buttocks look. Bodybuilders, to me, look best with small well defined backsides going into a sharp V taper. But I guess I'm of the previous generation

I do think the wellness physique is a bit overrated. I see it looking VERY strange in the not so distant future.

I find hot that a fbb knows that she is big, muscular, ripped and vascular, but also the opposite is hot aswell, when she doesn't know how really big and hot she looks, so a good combination of both is what makes it really seductive.
