Tbf, I think a lot of it is a slippery slope. The entire concept of identity, esp. ethnicity vs nationality isn’t a “one size fits all” thing & often varies by country.
Let’s take Iran for example. Most people are ethnically Persians/Farsis, but there’s also Baloch, Azeri, Arab, Armenian, Qashqai etc. peoples within the country. But on a national sense, that’s Iranian. So how do you describe someone born to Iranian parents in a different country? e.g. Sepideh Moafi (Iranian blood, born in Germany, lived most of life in US). It’s all tricky to classify
My guess is that people either…
change tags b/c they have misconceptions/errors (E.g. Sabah Syed’s posts often include “Arab” when most Pakistanis aren’t)
maliciously/for some nationalistic motive (What I think is going on here, b/c Turkish-Kurdish relations are… strained… to say in the least. Many Turkish internet users are honestly hyper-patriotic online from what I’ve seen, so I think this is why)
Kinda unrelated, but I do find it odd how some people get tagged “mixed race/multiracial” but people will go back and remove the specific tags? Isn’t that counterintuitive?
In the tag list it says 142 uploads but when you click on it or search for images tagged with "kurdish" there are 0 results.
