Hey GWM-ites,

Just curious who a) loves stand-up comedy and b) who are your favourites.

** Current:

Jimmy Carr

Ricky Gervais

Bill Burr

** Old schoolers:

Richard Pryor

Eddie Murphy

Dave Chappelle

Live is best, but youtube is a great second.

:-)

Chappelle is my favorite storyteller in comedy.

Carlin is my favorite observational commentator (or philosopher, if you prefer).

Burr is my favorite angry Bostoner.

I'll throw a curveball and say that Carrot Top has been growing on me lately... I didn't care for him at all in the 90's, but seeing him guest host on Kill Tony changed my opinion of him.

I loved the Chappelle show, I think it opened a lot of people’s eyes on issues about race through comedy. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to be the same guy anymore.

Carrot Top pulling things out of a box is just funny to me.

Dude! Of course Carlin!

A good laugh is as good as lifting. 🤣😎💪

Will have to check out Carrot Top.

Must admit I was underwhelmed with Fluffy. Russell Peters has also gone downhill big time.

Anyone remember the old "Comedy Central Presents" series? I remember discovering Lewis Black during those years, and he became one of my favorites for a long time. Bill Burr, meet your angry, older Jewish counterpart 🤣

The late, great Rodney Dangerfield.

One of the best ever, but he still didn't get no respect, no respect at all. ;)

Norm Macdonald.

He was incredible.

Older Bill Burr from like ten years ago was also amazing.

I love stand up comedy almost as much as I love muscular women! I love Josh Johnson, Mitch Hedberg, Bill Hicks, Bill Burr, Norm Macdonald, Anthony Jeselnik, Martin Short, Eddie Murphy, Sarah Silverman, Dave Chappelle, George Carlin, Andy Kaufman, Sam Kinison, Richard Pryor, Joan Rivers, Brian Regan, Rodney Dangerfield, Steve Martin, Kevin Nealon, Nikki Glaser, Roseanne Barr (her stuff in the 1980s and early 1990s only), Chris Rock, Phyllis Diller, John Mulaney, Lewis Black, Steven Wright, Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Jim Gaffigan, Don Rickles, Louis CK, Redd Foxx, Gilbert Gottfried, Emo Phillips, Tom Segura, just to name a few

Josh Johnson and his “Catfishing the KKK” bit is one of my favorites ever.

Steve Martin is not only a great comedian, he is also a world class banjo player. :)

"Computer school" is probably my favorite 🤣

Steven Wright, Rodney Dangerfield are/were awesome. George Carlin is smart and witty but I don’t consider him a LOL comedian. There are many I’m not familiar with but I generally don’t seek stand up comedy.

Check out Jeff Dunham - comedian/ventriloquist. He's hysterical. Kristi put me on to him a few years ago.

Lots are amusing but not genuinely funny. I don't like the uber confidence of lots of them. A few that I think are genuinely funny:

Steve Hughes. Billy Connolly. Bill Hicks. Bill Bailey. Bob Newhart.

Anthony Jesselnik, Bernie Mac, George Carlin, Richard Prior, Bill Burr, Gilbert Gottfried

Hans Teeuwen with his show Real Rancour

I 2nd a lot of these already mentioned. But I'm going to go with one you might not have thought of...

Frank Oz (Voice, Personality, and Muppeteer) of:

  • (Star Wars) Yoda
  • (The Muppet Show) Miss Piggy
  • (The Muppet Show) Fozzie Bear
  • (The Muppet Show) Sam the Eagle
  • (The Muppet Show) Animal
  • (Sesame Street) Grover
  • (Sesame Street) Cookie Monster
  • (Sesame Street) Bert
  • (The Dark Crystal) Aughra, Keeper Of Secrets
  • (The Dark Crystal) Chamberlain

Here's Miss Piggy (Oz) making a large theatre audience of celebrities laugh at the 52nd Annual Academy Awards (1980) with co-presenter Johnny Carson. (First 3 minutes 8 seconds of the video.):

@Phenom, when I was young I loved watching The Muppets, and saw myself as Kermit. Now I'm older, I relate much moreso to the two old gasbags in the balcony. Much more! 🤔🤣

Statler and Waldorf. Statler was voiced by Richard Hunt, and Waldorf was voiced by Jim Henson.

All they did was heckle, but they kept coming back each night and were still there for every show. 🤔
