Mandy Squires burned out (strange posts)

Apr 11, 2024 - permalink

Mandy Squires seems to be burned out with the bodybuilding industry, and just like Dani Reardon, she’s doing a lot hippie style post. She’s is talking a lot about chakras, energy, and god. I can’t find the post, but I swear I saw it yesterday, she was going on about catering to porn culture. She seems a bit incoherent, lots of different themes mixed into different post. In a nutshell, she could be done with fetish catering, she’s doing a story Q and A, and some asked her to flex, she said no.

Those stories are still on her IG page, unless you got blocked.

And did we watch the same stories? She didn’t sound incoherent at all, and while she talked about embracing spirituality it didn’t sound like anything too out of ordinary. It sounds like it makes her happy and that she has other goals outside of bodybuilding.

And also some of the questions she got were fetishizing and weird. Weird for a stranger to ask if they would come to a city to meet up with them, and nothing wrong with saying no to flexing.

I’m curious where you got “incoherent” from. She came off as well-spoken and honest.

I can’t find the post about how she was catering to fetishes. She didn’t block me, I still have both her pages. It was a post not a story. It’s probably just me, like usual. Could be also because I’m not a spiritus or faith driven person, but the things she’s talking about don’t seem coherent to me. Seems like topics about meditation, spiritual energy, balance, or religion or combined into these sentences. I understand that women have to step back from bodybuilding, even through it is hard to accept.

She wants to retire and that's perfectly fine and that's her choice. There's no need to judge her for that.

Bodybuilding is so hard I am not surprised that people give up. I do think the concept of an fbb into all the new age stuff is hot even if I am not into that stuff.

I'm not sure whether you intended it that way, but using this forum to refer to her as "incoherent" is a bit unkind.

Whatever Mandy wants to do with her Life from now on is her choice. Judging her on such choices is unfair, to say the least here.

It does seem like the FBB lifestyle is hyper demanding and there is also very limited funding in the sport. So, after all, why not dump it and do something else that is more important to her. All the Power to Her I say!

She’s been doing this for a while (bb) probably been around the scene 8-9 years now? I think she was burned out with it when she last competed but maybe the bf situation at the time didn’t help.

She was always into new age stuff. Idk what it is about different people that eventually over share on socials vs just dropping out completely but she had been on the fetish scene for a bit too and I wouldn’t be surprised to find she was over it a while back, except it’s “easy” income.

Wouldn’t be surprised to learn it’s not something she wants for her kids, or for her kids to know since they’re probably 8-10 years old now if not older, and wants to set a diff example. I don’t think much of the stuff that’s been posted online from her cams are around anymore.

Just another phase in life that we all go through. It used to be rare to see this happen in real time. Used to happen like the Denise Rutkowski saga—people would dip and reappear years later very different. Now we’re seeing every step.

Here’s a caption from a very recent post. To me it seems like she is definitely over the objectification that has come with bodybuilding. She still loves training but based on this and from her stories she’s pushing that she doesn’t want to be looked at that way anymore.

Additionally many of her recent posts encourage people to reach out for training. Idk if this is purely fitness training or maybe life coaching or spiritual coaching. A mix of those? Not sure. It’s not dissimilar to Katie Lees trajectory except her focus is Christianity rather than spirituality.

I didn’t watch all her stories from today in full but two stood out.

One was the question: “front double biceps flex please”. The answer was a flat no. Many women don’t even answer that question if they’re not entertaining that kind of attention but she made a point to say no for all the people asking.

The other was one asking her bicep measurement. She did give an answer from her prime and then went on to say “which is a lot bigger than all of you which you could change by going to the fucking gym”. So both probably questions she is sick and tired of seeing. She did have other questions that weren’t weird but who knows who they came from.

Anyways i wouldn’t say she’s incoherent at all. Maybe wordy. I was picking up what she is putting down. Would hope that some of yall would appreciate what she did give us and respect her personal decisions (which includes not asking the fetish questions anymore )

It's a naive outlook to think that you can build a physically attractive body for yourself and also not come under some degree of objectification. She also needs someone to tell her that she can't control who looks at her online, if she's going to put herself on social media. If she wants to influence others to start working out, then that's fine, but if she's going to be hyper-sensitive to schmoe comments then she would probably be better off just staying off the internet and influencing people at a local level in the real world.

But can you blame her for getting annoyed when people keep pointing out how big she used to be and how much smaller she is now? And is it a crime to want to be recognized for more than just a physique?

No.

Of course not.

I normally agree with your posts, but I have to disagree with the general gist of your statement. Female bodybuilders and muscular women in general KNOW that there are guys out there who are into their physiques, and they're good with that, but most, like Mandy, make it pretty clear that they don't want to be the recipient of those comments (i.e. keep it to yourself.) Saying things like "if you put yourself out on social media, you have to take it" sounds more like placing the blame and obligation on the influencer versus the people making those comments.

It's clear that she has a strong passion for physical fitness, and it's great that she wants to share that with others (and in fact, it might even be better now since she is training more for health and wellness versus bodybuilding, which can be pretty unhealthy and of course involves drug use, but she shouldn't be penalized with a "oh, since you show off your body (in basically normal workout clothes), you shouldn't be surprised at schmoe comments." perspective. I also think it's appropriate for influencers to call out unwanted comments like that.

If a muscular woman or bodybuilder wants to make a living off of her physique and doesn't mind presenting it in an objectifying matter, then that's cool. There are also those who don't want to and want to focus on other aspects of living a fit lifestyle and building a strong body and that is also OK. It's a matter of learning how to communicate with people respective of their wishes.

It's easier to sympathize with someone who doesn't want to be objectified for their physique or receive comments for the same if they haven't made MANY videos for various pay sites centered on their body. Cam sites too. She has the right to change course, though. Wish her the best.

It actually seems like she’s turning away from the “fitness” and moving jnto “wellness” which I would agree is different. I don’t buy into the chakra stuff BUT do agree that everyone’s body has different needs and she’s looking to help people feel well (whatever that happens to mean for them).

Which makes sense if she is trying to get a cert though again I’m surprised she never earned one prior.
