Oh I wish I could buy Twitter stock. Unfortunately Elon keeps it all to himself. Twitter is going to be a trillion dollar company.
Being a funboy or hater is bad for your pocket. The losers that were running twitter before him were suckered into selling dirty cheap.
If this thread remains unlocked we will revisit next year to see who made bank. For the time being he runs the company with 1500 employees instead of the 8000 that he found when he bought it.

Kind of interesting news... with the Twitter rebrand to "X," there was a user who had the @X handle since 2007. That user is Gene X. Hwang, a photographer whose work is known to many of us in the GWM community.
They will have to pay him BIG if they want him to change his Twitter handle name. They better.

Well first of all that is Indonesia they are over 100 years behind the west when it comes to society .and secondly they didn't ban it because of the name but because there is a lot of uncensored porn on there. that is probably why most mainstream platforms like Instagram and YouTube don't have porn. because they want to be in as many countries as possible so they earn more money.

Yeah, read the article. That's not how it worked out for Gene.
He wanted to call Paypal x but back in the 90s people took themselves more seriously so he couldn't. but these days it's not a big deal.
Elon wanted to change the PayPal brand to X back then but based on focus groups, they found the name to be associated with porn. He got kicked out for trying that. The attitude hasn’t changed since then. The only thing that has is he can’t be kicked out.
They did Gene dirty but Gene handled it like a class act with his response "alls well that ends well"

i'll be frank and, likely, a little disapassionate here.
one article says that he'd been offered money for the handle several years ago, but he didn't think it legitimate. but if it was from Elon's corner, he might have known this might happen once the sale went through.
he's a fairly infrequent tweeter (5 tweets or retweets since April, around the same replies), and althouhg he has 68k followers, he's been around enough as a photographer that his business likely doesn't come from twitter at all. i'm actually sure he's not that surprised since twice Elon tweeted "x" and he retweeted it.
i still think this is a shitty move and for what, to port over the @twitter history to @x? but IMO twitter has been in a downslope even before Elon took over. Massive debt, a lot of its value tied up in the brand. frequently terrible takes. Really the need to boil down to 120 and then 240 characters has made for bad journalism and contributed to clickbait mania.
IMO the only GOOD thing to come out of twitter are the telenovela-esque copypasta tweets that sports twitter puts out, and twitter replies which are frequently incredible. ok, and maybe the fbb twitter although most of them don't barely use it, but IG is not allowing nipples and people like Angie Yeo are posting topless as part of business without getting flagged. otherwise it gives too many people sharing one brain cell a chance to say whatever harebrained thing comes into their head.

Elon or not, no private company has ever come remotely close to being a Trillion Dollar company. The largest private company in America is worth less than 200 billion dollars. If Elon wanted to make it profitable, he would've bought it under the Tesla umbrella and kept it publicly traded. He bought it for himself because he wanted a toy to play with. No serious businessman would replace an Advertising business with a Subscription model. Sane people figured out that Advertising was way more lucrative back in the 90s.

100%. He's such a massive tool. Every day he somehow out does himself. Can't believe I was once on his bandwagon
And I actually wondered whether that's THE Gene X Hwang.... But thought "nah. Probably some other guy"
