who knows both could be true she could be taking out the violence she endures from hubby onto them also something that I learned recently is that some couples will fight one another all the time but when one takes it to far the other will go to the authorities and cry foul.. Gabis infamous for fighting men so it wouldn't shock me if this is how they naturally dealt with disputes, don't hit women.

It's fairly common for abuse victims to become abusers themselves.
