Why was this image merged?

The quality looked indistinguishable to me from the other one, and that one was uploaded first.

I thought it was based on the numbers at the bottom?

No, just because an image has more pixels in it doesn't necessarily make it higher quality. It could just be an enlarged version of the smaller one.

I open both and check the fine details in the pic visually when merging.

Fair enough, just wanted to check

I do believe that I should be an original uploader for this one because I was first who uploaded it.

The other video was larger and higher resolution.

merged different pics

I took a look, and the pictures were so similar (slight posture move), that they might as well be the same.

this was merged, I see 4 different names and mine was removed ^^' is it because it was posted during last year?

Yours would have automatically been hidden if your upload was after the one that took priority.

ah I see, thank you

Okay, so I post the below photo, except with the words "this year" in small print on the top left. Sniper sees it, then apparently finds a version without those words and uploads it (he clearly saw the original since he favorited it). His upload takes preference and he gets the credit for it. Cool, cool, cool.

Frustrating that. Happened to me.

The other upload was also higher quality, in addition to not having the text on it.

I made 100% sure no one posted this first but as usual I'm the target for a duplicate. What is the issue with my upload being merged?

The other one was posted after yours but is higher quality.

So I had a few posts recently merged and I'm trying to figure out why. Since the recent ones were old posts that I had up for weeks and I think one, even months.

Maybe someone posted a higher resolution version than yours.

I checked your 4 most recent merges, they were all into higher-quality versions.

For something like Instagram, a lot of times getting the highest-quality versions available on their servers requires you being signed in, so third-party websites like StorySaver.to that download anonymously can't access them, you'd have to use a browser extension or a program that you sign into Instagram in like 4KStogram.

I've said this before, the reason for merges is rarely a mystery. Either A) The other version was higher-quality, or B) If they were the same quality, the other version was uploaded first. Unless you've compared your version with the one that stayed up and are sure yours was better, there's not really much point in asking, it's just going to be A or B.

Got it thanks for explaining it to me greatly appreciate it

So I saw my blakelee post get merged and checked it was a lower quality if I'm understanding pixels right. The one that replaced mine was 579x772 but the one I uploaded was 952x1288. I'm also sure I posted it almost a good few hours before theirs so unless I'm mistaken.

The other (kept) one was uploaded a few minutes before, according to their index numbers. And both are pretty similar in quality - neither one looks like it was quite an original-sized image anyway, based on the ways that they're cropped. But actually, there might be enough here to do a reverse, this time.

Thank you for looking into it and taking time out of your day. I greatly appreciate it.
