Okay, so I post the below photo, except with the words "this year" in small print on the top left. Sniper sees it, then apparently finds a version without those words and uploads it (he clearly saw the original since he favorited it). His upload takes preference and he gets the credit for it. Cool, cool, cool.

The other upload was also higher quality, in addition to not having the text on it.
So I had a few posts recently merged and I'm trying to figure out why. Since the recent ones were old posts that I had up for weeks and I think one, even months.

I checked your 4 most recent merges, they were all into higher-quality versions.
For something like Instagram, a lot of times getting the highest-quality versions available on their servers requires you being signed in, so third-party websites like StorySaver.to that download anonymously can't access them, you'd have to use a browser extension or a program that you sign into Instagram in like 4KStogram.
I've said this before, the reason for merges is rarely a mystery. Either A) The other version was higher-quality, or B) If they were the same quality, the other version was uploaded first. Unless you've compared your version with the one that stayed up and are sure yours was better, there's not really much point in asking, it's just going to be A or B.

Got it thanks for explaining it to me greatly appreciate it
The other (kept) one was uploaded a few minutes before, according to their index numbers. And both are pretty similar in quality - neither one looks like it was quite an original-sized image anyway, based on the ways that they're cropped. But actually, there might be enough here to do a reverse, this time.

Thank you for looking into it and taking time out of your day. I greatly appreciate it.
The quality looked indistinguishable to me from the other one, and that one was uploaded first.
