The Sad Cycle of Social Media

Dec 12, 2021 - edited Dec 12, 2021 - permalink

So, after nearly a decade of being featured on this site and even being a part of the community for a time, Cindy Landolt decided to have her pictures removed. I wouldn't have been surprised at all if she did this back when her boob job was met with overwhelmingly negative reception. But the motives here are clearly different.

Sad day. So many women seem to treat this site as a stepping stone to get exposure, only to eventually blacklist their content once they have enough of it. Some, like Michelle Gavin, even have removed themselves from the blacklist just to advertise their onlyfans.

It's really a shame that this site is just in the middle, if not being regarded as a fetish/porn site by outsiders. Social media has been great for fitness, but once money gets thrown in the mix I feel it moves past the peak. E.g. YouTube, once home to more genuine and candid content, is now dominated by channels in it for money and who produce clickbaity content.

Anywho, rant over. Maybe I'm just reading between the lines too much. What do you all think? I feel I've seen this so many times, e.g. Aleesha Young and Melissa Brodsky.

I wouldn't be so sure that all of them even knew about this site before making their decision. Obviously Cindy did, since she has an account here (inactive for several years).

I suspect most women who decided to blacklist themselves found out about this site's existence the same day, did little to no research about us, and got upset because in their mind it's like we're taking all their credit and stealing potential followers and likes. In my experience it's exactly the opposite since this site has led me to follow many of them that I would have otherwise never known about.

Right now the only reason for these women to know or care about this site is to, like you said, advertise themselves.

Eh, it is what it is.

If you put yourself out there, you're going to get attention, and you can't always control the type of attention. Anyone who gets in this subculture should be aware there are hordes of fans with absolute zero social skills. And some people are just plain jerks. But that's social media reality.

Women who can't deal with it should go private, or not get into it in the first place.

And if you like someone's pics, save them to your hard drive, because they could be gone some day. There are a dozen pics of Jaymie Piper I'll never get to see again, sadly, because I didn't save them.

Yea most people only care about profit these days and obscure websites like this are not profitable to them and younger people think its weird just because its not a top social media site really some zoomers think everything outside of the biggest social media is weird and creepy a really bad mentality.

Actually I agree with you here, though I didn’t post to whine about the blacklist.

People have a right to control use of their content, period. I was instead commenting on the current paradigm, where some models (like Cindy, most likely) are all focused on the $$$. She could have chosen to have her pictures removed when the community was rude to her, but didn't. Then, after her content starts stagnating she does. It was just all a business decision in her mind.

A lot of women issue takedowns for privacy, and a general sense of dignity, which I completely respect. What's happening with a select few just isn't that at all, which I find sad.

100% fact.

Cindy's removal request in particular was interesting because it was worded as though she was not aware of her pics being here:

It has been brought to my attention that my photos are being posted on your website without my permission, I would like to politely request that my photos be taken down immediately.

I verified that the email was sent from the actual domain of one of her sites, so it is not fraudulent in that sense. This leaves the following options:

  1. The email was sent not by her, but rather someone who manages her websites and online presence.
  2. Her account here was fake and not actually run by herself.
  3. She just chose to use generic takedown language without bothering to modify it to reference the fact that she posted some pics here herself.

I think #1 is the most likely, but I am just speculating.

I agree that it’s sad, but for a different reason.

This site presents an opportunity for models to have their content discovered and appreciated by new and existing fans alike in a respectful and curated environment.

I don’t think it takes a business degree to understand that something like that can only be beneficial. Since we don’t allow paysite content anyway, I’d argue that something like GWM is a net positive in terms of introducing fans to models they may not be familiar with, leading to increased engagement and revenue for said models.

GWM is basically a unicorn in that regard, since every other forum for this kind of content (Saradas, Reddit, Discord etc.) tends to skew heavily towards the “Wild West” model of moderation.

Of course, it’s their right to have their content removed if they choose to. If anything, the fact that moderators so readily accommodate such requests further reinforces my statement above.

I guess it goes both ways. I've personally stopped following fbbs because this site made it redundant to do so. Even for the women I never knew of before hand, there's really no point in me following them if their content ends up here anyway. Only thing I'm missing out on are their captions. But I can do without everyone thinking they're a life coach just because they lift weights. So I understand their side of things if I'm being honest.

That said, it's on them to give people a reason to follow aside from the obvious. For example, Vivi Winkler I still follow because she does so much more with her social than just the typical posing pics.

If the females can use this site to promote their OF and the site makes money from traffic gained off their photos being here, then both sides win, so I don't see the problem.

You'd be shocked at how many great pics/vids users aren't uploading. I would say of the women that aren't blacklisted (and have been discovered), the average is like 50%. Obviously the high scoring women are going to have uploaders scraping from every nook and cranny to get any and every image they can on the site, even if it's completely irrelevant content. And so they end up missing a lot of what many other women post on their pages.

Chainers comment doesnt surprise me at all and I think gives some perspective in that its likely management companies and/or advertisers that are requesting the take downs in many cases. In the beginning social media was entirely controlled by individual content creators but the reality now that its big business, the people with profit making accounts have less control over their content and image than we are led to believe.

I’m not a fan of social media. I’ve only occasionally visited the IG sites of a few of my GWM favorites but do not follow or message anyone. I like GWM because as an admirer of buff women, I can visit one site to see many photos. So it is quite unfortunate when I learn that many of my favorites are on the blacklist. Only recently I found out Lauren Martin Stow is on the blacklist. Is it only a matter of time before more of my favorites keep requesting to be removed from this site? Are the numbers of women asking to be removed increasing compared to previous years? Perhaps I’m venting, I realize I’m powerless over the blacklist. However if more and more great women ask to be removed, all that’s left are classics, weirdos and girl next door types who are unaware of being included here.

Cindy's removal request in particular was interesting because it was worded as though she was not aware of her pics being here:

Almost certainly written by a social media manager, as you said, with the decision probably being from that of advisors and not herself. Real sad that social media is becoming monetized. It almost seems to be a mark of success to have your content removed from supposed fetish/porn sites once you "made it" and no longer have to rely on it.

Edit: In Cindy's case, it may well be for the better. Sad as it is, she gained most of her success and popularity after getting the implants and switching the paradigm of her content from fitness to glamor and sexuality. Society's boring tastes are what pay bills.

I dunno, going by her very sudden change in appearance, does option #4 really seem that far-fetched anymore?

Bummer I hate hearing this social media has made life awful and dull so much great content and websites are being pulled down because of corporate shenanigans, sucks.

Seems like a silly move for someone who wants attention. Of course, if she decides to come back like Gavin, I'm sure most guys will be all too grateful. Once AIs/Cylons create photo-realistic bodies (and then video), I mean, that's the ballgame, right? Algorithms will zero-in on user-preferences, and voila. No, wait, it's the sex dolls. That's the end.

I didn't realize Cindy had asked for her pictures to be withdrawn. What I was referring to was why she stopped visiting this site and commenting. It was obvious why that happened if you looked at some of the comments on her pictures at the time she left.

Yea I thought that's what you were talking about the forum culture here can be incredibly cringe worthy there's another thread here where a user goes into depth about this topic and honestly I don't blame the women in bodybuilding for looking their noses down on us after reading his comment, I hope there's a change in behaviour here soon and in bodybuilding in general.. These are real people RESPECT THEM.
