Lack of a huge prize money. Lack of interest by some commercial product endorsements. Lack of variety in terms of modeling and acting in TV and Film. Another negative is the abusive steroid use among some of the FBB competitors, which is the deep voice. Even in the adult film side, there isn't a large presence of attractive FBB's involved. Those who are in that side of the business are well into their 40's and 60's. Everything is all about self promotion first...
It was so much more celebrated in the 90's ... Lenda Murray was a great example ! and got very good prize money at the Olympia .

Why do women in general only make 60% of what men do?
Because the business doesn't want to pay the full amount to women and men equally.
Female bodybuilding is a niche sport compared to the main bodybuilding scene occupied by men. Majority of people are grossed out by female bodybuilders and thus female bodybuilders do not get respected like their male counterparts. FBB's do not get sponsors, clients will not train with them, nutrition companies do not want anything to do with them because they need to sell products so therefore they will hire male bodybuilders and female bikini models. These are many reasons why they do not make as much because bodybuilding is mostly a male oriented sport. The most money is awarded to them because they have more value compared to female bodybuilders.

Dude, the "wage gap" has been debunked many times over.
This particular question has been around for a long time. If male bodybuilders or men's bodybuilding competitions are such highly paid, why are female bodybuilders so underpaid? Why are female bodybuilding competitions so underpaid?
