Feature request: Better organization of our Favorites

Oct 02, 2021 - permalink

It would be nice to have a way of organizing our favorites, perhaps by creating folders or assigning our own tags to different kinds of images. I know I can filter by tags already, but the existing tags are generic - I'm thinking of more personal, specific tags/folders based on our idiosyncratic likings. These folders/tags ideally will only be visible to us, since it's purpose is to help us revisit our own favourites and find stuff more easily.

What do you think?

I like the idea!

Yes I also think this would make it easier to scroll through your faves if you have a lot of them. I think Deviantart has a favourite system where you can create your own folders

I agree, it would be really helpful.

Yes, exactly! Most of my favourites never get seen again, because they get lost in the long list.

Suggestion to Chainer if he reads this: if you implement this, you can maybe use the data from users' folders to make an improved "Similar images" feature. You already use favourites lists; having images grouped together by users would provide a stronger signal of similarity between images.

Another alternative to folders would be tags, like in Gmail. They act as a grouping like folders, but allow an image to appear in multiple ‘folders’. These tags would be only visible to the user who created the folders.

Not sure how much work this would be to implement or the database impact on searches?
