Starting this as a catch-call thread where I answer frequent questions that come up regarding site policy and moderation, so that I can link people to these posts instead of repeatedly typing out the same info in various places across the site.

This is not intended for discussion so I plan to keep this thread locked.

Edit: To be clear, if you want to discuss any of these, you can start a new thread about it; however, I want to keep this thread free of clutter so I can easily find these and link to them when needed.

Why was my upload deleted for [reason] when there are other uploads with more [reason]?

Here, "reason" is most often one of the strongly discouraged items in the upload rules, like "low quality" or "women showing very little visible muscularity".

By asking this question you are implicitly assuming that there is some sort of dividing line, where all images past this line are kept and all those below it are deleted. For example, there is some bar for image quality, and everything higher quality than that is kept, and everything lower is not.

This is not true. It is not, and has never been, our goal to moderate this way.

Instead there are various factors that can affect whether a particular upload is deleted:

  • I tend to be more forgiving of mediocre uploads for models that have fewer images, whereas I often don't see a reason to keep a mediocre upload of a model who already has hundreds of much better uploads.
  • "First come first served" - Kind of like the above, but if you upload a picture of a model who already has many existing similar pictures, I might just delete yours even if the existing ones aren't necessarily better. They were there first.
  • Upload age - I prioritize deleting recent mediocre uploads much more highly than older mediocre uploads. This is because the newer uploads have more eyeballs on them whereas the old ones are "water under the bridge" so to speak. Old uploads also have "historical archive" value whereas new ones do not. All this is to say, I often don't care to delete a slightly mediocre picture from 10 years ago, even if you report it.
  • Random dice roll - many uploads hit several of the "strongly discouraged" categories to a different extent, and it is impossible to judge this objectively. Therefore, the deletion essentially comes down to the whims of whatever moderator happens to be looking at it. The more of the discouraged categories your upload hits, and the more it hits them, the more likely it is to be deleted.

If you don't like this, try to steer as clear of the discouraged categories as you can when uploading.

Upload racing

"Upload racing" is my term for when people rush to upload an image of a popular model as soon as she posts it to her social media.

This often results in frustration such as:

  • "My uploads are merged frequently"
  • "I was totally the first one to upload this, so why did my upload get merged?"

(In the case of that second one, it's often the case that the other uploader did, in fact, beat you to it, except their upload was in the queue at the time so you couldn't see it.)

From my point of view as a moderator, in any particular group of duplicate uploads, only the highest quality one has value to the site. All the rest just caused extra work for the site staff since they had to be merged.

Basically, if you choose to upload race, I see this as you saying that you're happy to spend the moderators' time dealing with your duplicate uploads just to get a chance at the sweet, sweet image score if your upload ends up being the one that is kept.

Therefore, if you do this anyway, you are choosing to bring all the associated frustrations upon yourself. It is not a goal for me to make this less frustrating for you.

If you don't like this, upload pictures of lesser known models instead, whose uploads are less likely to be contested.

My upload rate was throttled. How do I get my allowed uploading rate back up?

Usually when we notice that a particular uploader takes up a lot of staff time with their uploads (as in, their uploads require a lot of deletions and merging), we put limitations on their account to decrease their upload limits.

If this happens to you it means that we see your uploading is causing more work than benefits to the site, and therefore we would like to have less of it for the time being.

What you should not do is to register an alt account to evade the restrictions on your original, and use that for uploading. We will eventually find out and when we do, we will ban both accounts and could decide to just delete all your uploads on your new account anyway, thus negating all your effort. (I have a script that can do this in just a few seconds.)

Instead, here's what you can do to get your upload rate back up. For your uploads in the past 1-2 months, if BOTH OF THE FOLLOWING are true:

  • You have had a very small ratio of merges and deletions (that is, the number of deletions/merges relative to your total number of uploads is very small)
  • At most a small proportion of your uploads are very popular models; the majority are lesser known ones

Then message me and I will take a look at your account and raise your upload limit if these are both indeed true.

By doing this you are showing me that your uploads now add value to the site, in which case of course I will want to raise your upload limit!
