I was the same thing about Lola. Honestly I thought she had it this year and surprised Rhea won. Not knock on her cause she looked great but Lola seemed like she was a lock. So I can see this possibly happening to both Angela & her
That theory doesn't really hold much water though. Angela's been doing fetish work since 2020, so why would the judges wait this many years to "punish" her? Why'd she win the Rising Phoenix and get second place in Olympia last year then? I think it's obvious that Ashley came in with a better physique. Not sure how Leyvina beat her though...
I don't know if anyone else share my opinion but the last few Olympias have been lacking in terms of quality. The contestants' conditioning is not that good. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the lighting or the oiling or that huge screen on the stage but the girls just look soft - even Andrea Shaw - she looked way better on stage in 2020 and 2021. It's a similar situation with Natalia Kovaleva - she looks so amazing in her workout and pre contest videos - super large hard muscles with thick veins but then you see her on stage at the Olympia and suddenly she looks smaller and softer. And then I see photos of women competing in the 90s and early 2000s and man - they look really hard, vascular and ripped. I prefer this look much more especially when it comes to a contest.
A bit off topic because it is about the Mr Olympia (and I don't know how many are interested in male bodybuilding,) but how in the hell did Derek Lunsford win? Dude has to have the worst biceps of any Olympia winner.
Yeah, weird decision again, something is off with his upper torso as a whole. And his conditioning wasn't the best.
Regarding the other female classes, there has been some real surprises, especially Wellness and Bikini. I didn't have Chapados out of the top 5 on my bingo.
I had a great time at the Olympia this year and meeting some of the ladies!
Andrea Shaw and Ashley Jones will be battling it out in the coming years, same with Natalia Coelho and Sarah Villegas. Rhea Gayle winning figure was a surprise for me, I thought Lola Montez had it.
Don't really follow wellness, fitness or bikini.
Now with the addition of the fit model division, I wonder if it will be put on Friday or Saturday with bikini and the men's divisions?

I was at the Olympia this year and I've gone the past few years. I'm not a judge, but I saw a better Angie than last year. At minimum she held steady.
Look, I think she's amazing. Her physique is incredible and she has a fun attitude.
But the IFBB and the Olympia is a pretty conservative and right-coded organization across the board. Jake Wood is a huge MAGA guy. Lots of the people in the crowd are. Bodybuilding and fitness in general has a very strong and ascendent Christian identity.
When Andrea Shaw won, the first thing she thanked was God and prayer.
Angie is a fetish worker and she's SUPER open and proud about it. She's goth. IDK maybe she's a wiccan. She has an aggressive look with the hair and the makeup. In a subjective contest, these things will take away from your score when your competitors are trying their damndest to look as traditionally feminine as they can.
In terms of what the Olympia wants to be, I think they don't want Angie taking the top prize. Ever. Regardless of how she looks physique-wise.
Which sucks, but is what it is. Hadi Choopan is facing similar issues on the mens side. He's a muslim from Iran and doesn't speak English. They won't be calling him "Mr. Olympia" ever again, regardless of how he looks.
It's not a real sport. This organization exists to sell tickets and advertising space, and sponsorships. The winners they choose will be marketable or they won't win.

I have to agree. Like Victoria's Secret and Sports Illustrated, while Angie has an amazing physique, the IFBB needs to be a "cover girl." Going back to the Golden Age, you had Bev Francis but, ultimately, ladies like Rachel McLish and Cory Everson were give more of the spotlight because they had the "look (so to speak)."

I mean that kind of makes sense, but unless Jake Wood and the federation became MAGA and conservative overnight, that still doesn't explain why Angela won the Rising Phoenix last year (you know, the competition that's OWNED by Jake Wood... the competition where the Wiccan defeated the beloved Christian princess Andrea Shaw...) and consistently placed 2nd at the Olympia every year. I still don't buy this conspiracy theory. The simpler reason is that Ashley Jones looked better than Angela. I don't think she's being punished for anything. And if they really wanted to "punish" her, wouldn't Angela be kept out of the top 5 to not get any cash prize at all?
I think we've seen the peak of what Angela can deliver with her physique. It's kind of like a Alina Popa/Iris Kyle situation all over again. Regardless of the politics at play, Angela at her best is never gonna be good enough to dethrone Andrea at her best at the Olympia. Which is why I see Ashley as the next woman up because there are still improvements she can make to get better and better and she already seems to be nipping at Andrea's heels.

Maybe? Thing is, it's sort of a beauty contest so we'll never even know. In my eyes, she looked even better than last year, but I'm not a professional judge. This is all conjecture I guess.

Did you see the Fear the Lamb booth? I recall one of the booth dudes was talking on the podcast or something and kinda went on a semi-religious spiel. If anyone recently watched the Boys or Gen V that's kinda what I'm reminded me of...
Returning somewhat more on topic, did anyone see Tefani - Sam Razhi. She had some insane lower body proportions. Incredible but... not quite balanced

Yeah, it's unfortunate since I do like Angela but it's clear she has reached her peak. Ashley is younger and has more potential probably better genetics as well, she just needs better conditioning and then she would have a chance to beat even Andrea Shaw. But unless Angela puts on way more mass I don't see how she could get back to 2nd place anymore. Ashley is a genetic beast.
You can watch all divisions, in high quality 4K, prejudging and finals here. https://www.youtube.com/@integralmedica/videos
Unless you were in the audience this is as good as you can get to having an opinion.
In the recent years IFBB have done decently well with keeping politics out of the judging, they are too big an organization to have any interest in being biased. What they are guilty of is moving the goalpost constantly to shape the direction each division is going.
Regarding womens BB I think the judging was good.
Andrea Shaw is untouchable. Ashley Jones has Andrea's shape in a smaller package, both girls great posers. Huge problem for Ashley Jones is her very dark skin tone. You cannot see any detail on her, she needs much stronger lights if this would be ever be possible. Maybe the judges live can see her better but in video she is underexposed and disappears in the shadows.
Leyvina Barros and Angela Yeo. Better shape/structure on the former, better conditioning for Angela and better posing. Believing some MAGA conspiracy to get Angela forth is crazy. Angela has a thick waist, the top 3 have a classic BB frame, Angela does not. I can understand that her hairstyle and appearance doesn't help. But since this was not about who will represent Ms Olympia title and since the IFBB proved that they have no problem to award AYeo pro titles, all MAGA conspiracies are wrong. If Angela relly cares to play the "game"she could test the theory and put a blonde wig next time.
Alcione and Melissa Teich could have gone either way. I preferred the Melissa look. She lost 5th by one point. After the top 6th the level of the competitiors was low. It is a dying division.
Apart from Andrea Shaw, at this moment, no other competitor can stand next to former Ms Olympias and represent the highest standard that the title implies. At least the dying division still has a queen.

Finally someone with some sense
While I agree the MAGA theory is bullshit, at this level it is a game of inches. Leyvina has a more classic shape AND LOOK, with long blond-ish hair and a boob job, and the IFBB judges prefer that. Always have.
All together, that puts Leyvina just over Anjie. Which I think is bullshit, Anjie beat her on conditioning hands down, and that's supposed to matter in BB! But this year it didn't.

Ms Olympia is black and has no boob job. Same for No2 and she is even more black. IFBB doesn't care the slightest what happens to FBB, they tried repeatedly to cancel the division. AY had the thickest waist of the top 6. Conditioning was spot on.
FBB is enough of a freak show, no shaved heads, tats head to toe and other extreme body modifications are needed. But as it is obvious no one cares in the IFBB what happens to FBB. They do care a lot though about bikini and wellness, where the money is, no freaks here.

About Angela, she chooses to be edgy. She has her hair in a bizarre way that would make anybody look twice, and not in a good way. She's a satanist or whatever which is divisive. She will never be taken seriously outside of this niche community because she's a terrible ambassador. There's nothing about her that appeals to mainstream. Andrea is super feminine and doesn't try and be edgy. She's a perfect ambassador.

Yep. Other feminine ladies: Leyvina Barros, Ashley Jones, Chelsea Dion, Tiana Flex, Hunter Henderson and Martina Lopez

Totally agree. Anyone who doesn’t think that her image is a major factor has never been to a bodybuilding show and has never met the kind of people who judge them.
Hadi isn’t “edgy.” He’s just a Muslim who doesn’t speak English. That’s enough to knock him out.
If Hadi was an American guy named Chuck then he would have walked away with 1st place.

Oh I wasn't suggesting Hadi is some kind of asshole, not a knock of him. I actually like the guy and his approach to training and really appreciated his message to the women in Iran when he won a few years back. I may have been somewhat overwhelmed by the reactions of some of his fans, who behave exactly like... fans.
Back to the Ms O, I haven't recovered from Ashley's physique yet, what an improvement...
