The Protomen are easily my all time favorites.

Also worth mentioning are

  • Starset
  • The Killers
  • Gorillaz
  • Chevelle
  • Avenged Sevenfold
  • Cigarettes After Sex

and unironically Sabaton as well as the already mentioned

LCD Soundsystem

New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down is nothing short of a masterpiece

So much white slavery music. What the F are all those guys raging about? Living in some of the easiest times in human history? How about:

  • Pretty much any Motown
  • Stylistics
  • Spinners
  • Isley Brothers
  • Issac Hayes
  • Barry White
  • The Gap Band
  • El DeBarge
  • Sade
  • Chaka Kahn
  • Dionne Warwick
  • Count Basie
  • Duke Elington

(you get the idea)

And just to prove white people can create great music...

  • Allman Brothers
  • Doobie Brothers
  • Righteous Brothers
  • Hall & Oates
  • The Four Seasons
  • The Beach Boys
  • Steely Dan
  • Gino Vanelli
  • Ambrosia
  • Herb Alpert
  • ZZ Top
  • Van Halen
  • Engelbert Humperdink
  • Dean Martin
  • Frank Sinatra
  • Glenn Miller
  • Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey

I'm forgetting dozens on both lists.

There are too many great bands and musicians for me to decide my favorite.

I'll play off Kevin the Gangsta's list.

How about bands that are combined black AND white? Three favorites come quickly to mind......

  1. the Chambers Brothers. Had a white drummer in the late 1960s.

  2. Booker T and the MGs. The "house band" for the Stax/Volt record labels in the 1960s. The two surviving members, Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper, still collaborate today.

  3. the late Johnny Clegg and Juluka or Savuka, from South Africa.

I just discovered Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan. A mariachi band which has been around since 1897. Yes, one-eight. Eighteen, as in 1897. Since the nineteenth century, 1897.

All original members, still rockin' out with the band XD

Okay, I made that last part up, but not the 1897 thing; that thing is definitely real. Mariachi Vargas, y'all!

I like some of their stuff. But they are almost criminally overrated. Their drums are really boring. J-pop and J-rock has better drummers overall.

The Brew. The jazz band featuring Michael Rodriguez, not the rock band from the UK (although I definitely like them, too).

Just discovered them yesterday at the 2nd hand sto'. Debut album, 'In the Beginning'. Not available on any streaming platforms so, you'll have to buy a copy and burn it into your digital library. Totally worth it!

John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. "Eddie & The Cruisers" and "Eddie & the Cruisers 2". Both killer movie soundtracks.

Another cool soundtrack is Crossroads by Ry Cooder.

8/26/25 UPDATE: I now withdraw my compliments for the Crossroads soundtrack. They cut out the Headcutting Duel from the climax of the film. You just don't do that shit, homie!

John Cafferty is a Bruce Springsteen wannabe, I know for a fact that he got in trouble for sounding too much like Bruce.

Both albums are still awesome. Although, I now unsay my compliments about the Crossroads soundtrack I mentioned earlier. The more-epic-than-epic guitar duel from the final boss fight was cut out. That was the centerpiece of the entire movie and they chopped it off the ST! Forget J.Cafferty sounding like The Boss (ohh Heaven help us), whoever is responsible for this travesty is the REAL butcher!

Yep just not one of my Big 4. When my fav song of all time is Triangle by Venera which only has like 5.5k views on Youtube, you know I have uncommon taste ;). It is also helps that one of my fav Carpenter Brut songs is Fab Tool along with Meet Matt Stryker and Invasion AD.
