Do beards become "feminine" when worn by a female? (388 total votes)
It’s such a complicated issue.
Some are going to say that they should compete with the men because that’s what they identify as, but then that would mean that some like Janae Kroc could compete against the women.
On the other hand, restricting competitors to their birth gender is going to get people up in arms because they don’t want to see a Ms. Olympia with a beard or a Mr. Olympia with fake boobs.
So let me get this straight (pun intended) a trans (woman to man) wants to compete with women on the same stage while growing out a full beard? What's the message there? That women can grow beard too? Equality? It's very confusing to me. I get that gender swap is a choice and growing beard too is also a choice BUT in my opinion I believe 100% of straight men would find beards on a woman highly unattractive and these bodybuilding competition should put that into consideration when passing out standard laws on how these women should appear on stage.
I would also say since she identifies as a man she should compete with them if not this is clearly a case of identity crisis.
Some men actually do prefer women with who grow beards. My lady has some, and I'd love for her to grow a full beard. That means yes, if I were single and Marianna was available, (and she ddn't have that bad short do) I'd date her. 2) She is a woman, not just because she still uses her name, but also because one cannot change how you are created.
I'm not sure how to refer to them. Looks like they are transitioning to a man? Or possibly remaining as a bearded woman? They are competing as a woman. They do have an awesome physique. There are more and more fbbs who look more masculine. It'll be interesting to see how it is scored. I do think there should be an alternative category for non-gender conforming athletes.
People are trying to bush the boundaries of what is accepted as male and female more and more. Most of us just aren't that interested in it and don't want to be bothered by it. The simplest thing is to give them their own category. Rather than force it onto people who have no interest in it, or who are opposed to it.
To those who don't know who "he" is, you will be shocked, that what used to be Mariana Guayara
I think female bodybuilding has a bit of a confused identity as to what sort of activity it is, whether it is a sport competition or a beauty pageant with muscles.
If bodybuilding is primarily considered as an athletic competition, then I think it should be allowed. The compounds that some of these athletes take will make some of them grow hair in places they otherwise would not. But if it is considered along the pageant paradigm, and admits that it's largely driven by audience thirst, I think it's fair to ask competitors to present in a more conventional way.
I haven't looked deeply into it, but it seems like Marianna identifies as a queer woman, and is just comfortable with not shaving the facial hair that she grows as a result of PEDs.
Who cares what she identifies as, she is a total man now, in terms of FEMALE bodybuilding, she is out

As well as a shorter haircut making her face look much more masculine. There are lots of drag kings out there who are definitely female and often gay but like to dress like men and display facial hair.
He is just doing it for attention
Ding ding ding.
My guess is she's coping she had to cave and compete against women, so she's trying to make a show out of it. "I'm gonna do it MY way, har har har".

When the Lines Get Blurred, the Sport Loses Clarity
Women’s bodybuilding was built on a balance of muscle, symmetry, conditioning — and yes, femininity. It’s a category designed to celebrate the peak of the female form in strength sports.
But what happens when an athlete born biologically female, who now clearly presents and lives as male, is still competing — and being rewarded — in women’s divisions? This is not a one-off. This is a growing trend.
This is not about steroids. This is not about discriminating against personal life choices.
This is about:
• Fair competition – When category definitions are ignored, the foundation of the sport collapses. • Health repercussions – Normalising extreme hormone use and identity shifts without addressing long-term risks sends the wrong message to the next generation. • Role models – Are these the examples we want for young women coming into the sport? • Policy failure – If identity can shift depending on what’s advantageous for competition, we no longer have a level playing field.
Federations like the IFBB Pro League need to step up. If they continue to reward competitors who no longer align with women’s division criteria, they are setting a precedent that will change the sport forever.
If we don’t address this now, the line between male and female categories will be erased — and with it, the integrity of women’s bodybuilding.
Bodybuilding is more than muscle. It’s a discipline, a standard, and a responsibility. And right now, that standard is slipping.
She defntely wanted to grow the beard - she used a strong mnoxdl too. (My computer won't type).
That do sure's not flatterng . . .
Defntely wants attenton - and no other way for her to try to get other gals to do ths too - and we all realze many could.
Came upon a weird debate while scrolling today. There's a trans person (woman-to-man) who wishes to feature a beard when competing in an upcoming show.
One woman says "they are competing in the proper division", while another says "it's an agenda that sends the wrong message" or something. Exhausted, I quit reading after about a dozen comments. Feels like so much Main Character to me, nothing more.
I do support personal freedom of expression and I also support the freedom of those who choose to comment on what they see publicly displayed. And if they don't want to buy tickets to see something they find objectionable, that's their right, too.
