Change in site SEO?

Jan 20, 2021 - permalink

After reading this thread I see that the reason why many models ask to remove their images is because they do not want to appear in Google searches (some did not even know they were in GWM), or at least not to appear within this site.

Maybe it's better that GWM doesn't expose the models' names in Google. Obviously this will decrease the number of visitors and new users of GWM. But I think it's better than continuing to lose models.

Ya, the SEO needs some major rework. I would hate my name popping up on GWM, even though I love the site.

Even if I were able to purposefully worsen the SEO, I don't think the decrease in site visitors would be worth the small number of models who currently request to have their pics removed but wouldn't in that case. I think you are overestimating the percentage of models on the site who have asked for their pics to be taken off.

For anyone who doesn't want to appear in Google, but is fine with remaining on GWM, you can set their page to noindex. Just a small line of code that would need to be added. With that, their page won't show in any search engine. You can do this with as many individual pages as you want without hurting the SEO of the site as a whole.

Exactly what I was thinking

But what about the usernames in comment sections and here in the forum?

The vast majority of models ask for their images to be removed without stating why. Most couldn't be bothered to have that kind of elaborate technical conversation.

Google could also penalise the site if it is found a human sees things differently the search engine.

Quite honestly if someone doesn't want to be found by a search, then they are probably just better off asking for their images to be removed. This is a public collection of model images and should be treated as such.

Yup, this; I couldn't have said it better.

But what about the usernames in comment sections and here in the forum?

We are obligated to remove pictures when the owner of the picture makes a valid copyright claim to remove it. We are not obligated to remove most discussions about particular people.

Whether I would actually remove discussion about someone from the forum upon request depends on the context. If it's something inconsequential like talking about their apprearance, I'd probably remove it as a courtesy. However, if it's something like reviews of a product they're offering, like an Onlyfans page, and they don't like the contents of the reviews... I would be resistant to removing that.

Humans seeing things different from search engines refers to a type of manipulation regarding cloaked pages, pages with hidden text to keyword stuff, etc.

Noindexing is common practice and wouldn't get penalized. Search engines still see those pages as they are anyway, they just won't index them.

Sorry if this sounds dumb to some of you but what is SEO?
