Love the new faster website overall... Like that you enabled the uploader, the ability to edit a photo while it's in the queue... I occasional need this feature to add or change a name... I like the old upload style better, a little harder for me to navigate the photos I want to upload when I do multiple, but I guess it's something I'll get used to. Now if only you can figure out a way for me to upload as fast as tempp. My hard drive is filling up faster than I can upload.

p.s.- thank you, Chainer, for this site!

Anything new is going to take some getting used to, but my feelings are positive so far.

It does seem considerably faster than the old site. Well done!

Minor gripe (and I may be the only one who cares) but the old site would show the upload time and date for an image, while the new site just shows something like "three days ago."

For someone like me, who has a sometimes frantic work schedule that only permits me to visit GWM once every three or four days, it was nice to be able to log the time and date of the last image I viewed, so I could tell where I was when I left off before.  The new date is a bit too vague to make that easy.

It's not a big deal, I suppose, but I did like the old way of dating photos better. I don't know how difficult it might be to change back, though.

Thanks for the feedback.

Whenever you see a date like "x days/hours ago" you can mouse over it to get a tooltip with the precise time in UTC.

Yes, regarding tempp
The number of uploads exceeds what should be possible according to the new site rules! I wonder if tempp
is actually a site user ID? I note my uploads, I usually opt for member vote, have been fast tracked within a few hours and accepted, but credited to tempp
Even my tags and the description are retained, but I am not credited as the uploader. Maybe this happens to fast track the post, or maybe if there are several posts of the same picture from different users, tempp  is assigned as the uploader?
If so, it is not fool proof, I have deleted 2 of my posts in the upload queue which have been posted since I put them in the queue.

My thoughts, as it should not be possible for any user to upload and have approved so many posts in a single day.  Maybe a mod could clarify?

tempp does not go through the queue (instead uploading straight to the site) because I found a long time ago that I liked his uploads so much I would approve them from the staff queue almost all the time, and pressing the Yes button became a chore.

Regarding him getting credited for pics others upload: when we find a pair of duplicate pictures, we do a merge on them. This has the effect of keeping the larger picture by default (because picture quality is more important than other considerations), or if they're the same size, the older one (to credit the person who uploaded it first). All the favorites and comments are moved over to that one picture, and the other one is deleted. tempp's pictures are often the one that is kept when this algorithm is followed in a merge.

Thanks Chainer, that makes a lot of sense. Your explanation is appreciated.

Thanks for explanation Chainer .. but don't you see that this is kinda unfair ?! .. i mean some person upload a photo first and all credits go to " tempp " - with all do respect to him - who happens to upload the same photo after and then the uploaded first photo is deleted to his .. because he is the admin's favorite or because of algorithm or any of this staff ?

we all here are doing our best and try to upload the best photos and videos .. so we feel a little bit disappointed when we see such a discrimination ( and i'm sorry i had to say it ) ..

but if that what you see , at least tell us what could we do to impress you like tempp so our uploads is approved as fast as his ..
thanks .

There were several users who got the direct-to-site upload ability, but of these really only tempp uploads regularly nowadays. This was many years ago, probably more than 6.

I don't want to take this away because tempp did nothing wrong (in fact his uploads are still great). However, I also don't want to give more users this ability because, as you pointed out, I wouldn't want any more uploaders feeling disappointed due to discrimination.

What I would really like to do is overhaul the upload process to ideally get rid of the queues altogether, while still maintaining the same quality of submissions that get on the site. I haven't come up with a good way to do this. Do you have any ideas?

Well, actually i have,  I hope it's applicable.

Merging duplicate images depends on the quality of them, the image with most quality stays while the other one(s) are deleted. OK, that logical and right and no one can say a word about it.

On the other hand. Let's talk about merging images with the exact same quality. a lot of members find out that their uploads are deleted to the uploads of another member ( mostly tempp) , although their uploads are before his on the site which is not fair when you think about it, especially when they find out that the upload that cause theirs deleted is the exact same quality. I think that adding a feature that when you have a duplicate pictures you keep the older one will be more fair.

But here comes another problem. A member upload a certain picture and it added to the queue . When it got approved after some time ( may be days ) , the member find out that another member ( mostly tempp ) already uploaded the same picture and it got approved in no time before his one who stayed in the queue for some time. So when it comes to merging images. The member's upload become the newer one and it's deleted to Tempp upload although Tempp uploaded it after him ( I say uploaded not approved ) .. Which is also not fair. So it would be more fair if you add a feature on merging images to keep the image depending on the time of uploading not time of approval. Because as i said, i uploaded it before him but his got approved before mine so mine is deleted to his which is disappointing. So adding a feature to keep the firstly (uploaded to the queue not approved on the site ) picture would bring some justice here .

That's my idea and i hope moderators think about making it real.

Thanks  :)

I've changed it to use the upload date. (The rest of the behavior is still the same; it goes by quality first, and the mod who is doing the merging can always manually override the default behavior if they want.)
